Acer makes everything from the budget Aspire to Predator gaming laptops and rugged Enduro machines, and we repair the lot for home users and businesses around Kensington. That includes the Aspire One Cloudbook, Ferrari and TravelMate Spin models too.

What the symptoms usually mean

The screen is cracked, blank or distorted

A cracked panel has to be replaced, at a guide price of £60 + cost of screen. A blank screen is less clear-cut. If you can faintly make out the desktop, the backlight or inverter has failed. A distorted or scrambled image more often points to the screen cable or the graphics chip. We test before we order anything.

It won’t turn on, or won’t charge

A laptop that is plugged in but not charging usually has a worn DC power jack, a failed charger or a battery at the end of its life. One that turns on and off repeatedly, or shows nothing at all, may have a motherboard fault. Guide prices are £95 + VAT to £135 + VAT for a power connector and £79 + VAT to £135 + VAT for a laptop that won’t boot.

It freezes, crashes or makes odd noises

The Windows blue screen of death, random freezes and sudden shutdowns can come from failing memory, a dying drive, heat or corrupted software. Clicking or grinding noises narrow it down to the hard drive or the fan. Keys that have stopped working generally mean a new keyboard.

Speeding up a slow Acer

Many older Acer laptops still have a mechanical hard disk, and swapping it for an SSD is the single biggest improvement you can make to speed. We can fit one in place of your existing drive. We also offer tune-ups, regular health checks, software troubleshooting and routine maintenance, all handled confidentially.

Lost or deleted files

If files have been deleted by accident or the drive has stopped responding, stop using the laptop and talk to us about laptop data recovery. We recover data from Acer hard drives and SSDs, and the first consultation is free. Other makes are covered on our main laptop repair page, and guide costs are on the price list.

Questions people ask

My Acer is plugged in but not charging. Can you fix it?

Yes. The usual causes are a worn DC power jack, a failed battery or a faulty charger. We test all three. If the power connector needs replacing, the guide price is £95 + VAT to £135 + VAT.

Will an SSD upgrade make my Acer faster?

If your laptop still runs from a hard disk drive, yes. We can install a solid-state drive or upgrade your existing hard disk to an SSD to improve overall performance and speed.

Do I have to bring my Acer to you?

No. You can drop it in at North End Road in West Kensington, or we can collect it from your home or office and return it free of charge. There is also a mail-in option.

How quickly can you repair it?

Simple laptop faults are usually fixed the same day and more complex ones in a day or two. A diagnosis normally takes no more than 24 hours.
