Surface Laptops are slim and tightly put together, which makes them a pleasure to carry and awkward to open. Getting inside one without marking the casing or the screen takes the right tools and some patience. We bring both, at our West Kensington drop-off and at our main workshop in SE1.
It won’t charge, or the battery is finished
If the charging light stays off or the laptop only charges now and then, the fault is in the charger, the charging port or the battery. We test each in turn. A worn or damaged port is replaced, at a guide price of £95 + VAT to £135 + VAT for a power connector. A battery that no longer holds charge is swapped for a genuine part.
Touchscreen and display faults
On a Surface the glass, the touch layer and the display are bonded together. That is why a crack in one corner can stop touch working across the whole screen, and why the repair is a new screen assembly. Our guide price is £60 + cost of screen.
A touchscreen that has stopped responding with no visible damage is a different matter. It can be a Windows driver, a connector or the panel itself, so we diagnose before quoting. Touch issues cost £79 + VAT to £165 + VAT as a guide.
Windows, storage and motherboard problems
Blue screen errors, a Windows installation that stops responding and a keyboard that has gone dead are often software faults, and we can repair or reinstall Windows. Overheating is dealt with at the same visit.
SSD failure, memory faults and motherboard failure are harder. The memory in a Surface Laptop is soldered to the motherboard, and on the earlier models so is the storage, so these are board-level repairs. If the laptop is dead and the files matter, ask us about SSD data recovery before anything else is tried.
