Screens, power supplies and other repairs
Everything in an iMac sits behind the display, so almost every repair starts with taking the screen off safely. That includes the screen itself, which we repair or replace, and the internal power supply. A failed power supply is a common reason for an iMac that is completely dead or keeps cutting out.
We also fix overheating, replace optical drives, and repair logic boards at component level. If macOS needs installing afresh or upgrading, we do that as well.
Upgrades that make an old iMac quick again
Swapping the hard drive for a solid state drive is the single biggest improvement on an older iMac. We fit SSDs and larger hard drives, and add or replace memory.
Data recovery and moving to a new Mac
If the drive in your iMac has failed, we can recover data from both hard drives and SSDs. The work is confidential, and there is no charge if nothing can be recovered. Our Mac data recovery page explains the process.
Replacing the iMac instead? We migrate your files securely to the new machine.
What it costs
Guide prices: an overheating repair is £135 + VAT to £165 + VAT. Logic board troubleshooting and repair is £285 + VAT on older models and £450 + VAT on newer ones with the T2 chip. Screens and power supplies vary by size and model, so ask for a free estimate. More rates are on the prices page.
The price we quote is the price you pay, and there is no call-out charge. For laptops, see our main Mac repair page.
Questions people ask
Do I have to bring my iMac to you?
No. We collect and return free of charge from your home or office, and a technician can also visit you. If you would sooner drop it in, we are at 68A North End Road in West Kensington.
My iMac won’t turn on at all. What is likely to be wrong?
A dead iMac often has a failed power supply, though a logic board fault can cause the same thing. We diagnose it first and give you a free estimate. If we can’t fix it, you pay nothing.
Can you make an old iMac faster?
Usually, yes. Fitting a solid state drive in place of the hard drive and adding memory make the biggest difference. We carry out both upgrades on 20, 21.5, 24 and 27 inch iMacs.
Will my files be safe during the repair?
We treat your data as confidential. If the drive itself has failed, we offer hard drive and SSD data recovery, and we can migrate your files securely to a replacement drive or a new Mac.
